The Woodlands Show Chorus Singing Our Hearts Out

The members of Glitz are originally from a wide geographical area including Texas, Michigan, Wisconsin and Canada with occupational backgrounds ranging from CPA, nurse, marketing and violin instructor.

THE WOODLANDS, TX - The Woodlands Show Chorus, an International Award-Winning Women’s four-part a cappella chorus, will be doing just that as we kick off the new year on the road to St. Louis, MOwhere the 72nd annual Sweet Adelines International Convention will be held. The chorus is anticipating lots of learning and fun ahead, as our Master Director Betty Clipman, continues to lead us on our journey to improve our art form heading into the International Competition this October 2018.    The joy of singing and ringing chords is why we meet every week!

The Woodlands Show Chorus is comprised of approximately 80 members who sing barbershop music- a cappella music sung in four-part harmony.  The Chorus has performed in a variety of venuesincluding the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion, Bernhardt Winery, The Woodlands Waterway Art Festival, hospitals, churches, 105 Veteran’s and Lone Star Honor Flight, as well as State District Judge, Kathleen Hamilton’sVeteran’s Treatment Court.  This year we are looking forward to our first appearance at The Rising Stars and Legends of Texas Event sponsored by the Greater Conroe Arts Alliance, and our first Singing Valentines event.

The Woodlands Show Chorus is very proud of our members who sing in quartets.   Quartets, as the word implies, have four members - one singer for each part: bass, baritone, lead and tenor.  The chorus has six quartets, including Sympatico and Live It Up who have placed third place and first place respectively in Gulf Coast Region 10, our local Sweet Adelines Region.

Glitz quartet has only been performing together for one year, however all four ladies have previous experience singing in quartets.  The Lead and Tenor have placed as high as Fifth Place in Regional Competition.  The quartet members have between 22 and 26 years of experience singing acapella music.  The members of Glitz are originally from a wide geographical area including Texas, Michigan, Wisconsin and Canada with occupational backgrounds ranging from CPA, nurse, marketing and violin instructor.  These ladies also have diverse musical experiences from vocals to instrumental music ranging from flute, guitar, piano and violin.  What brought them together was acapella music!

Linda Knight, the bass of Glitz, sums it all up, “I found singing in a quartet beats them all when it comes to fun and personal satisfaction. I enjoy the creativity involved in developing a song to perform. The notes and words are provided in the sheet music, but the interpretation comes from the skill and the heart of the singers. That’s what makes a song stand out from the rest, performing and playing to the audience.”

Glitz and several other quartets will be doing just that as they sing their hearts out on February 14th.  The Woodlands Show Chorus will be hosting our first ever Singing Valentines event.  Each quartet will sing a song, provide your individual message and a box of GODIVA Chocolate to the recipient.  What could be more personal than that!
