Shenandoah Receives Transparency Award

The City of Shenandoah received their second star in the Texas Comptroller’s Transparency Stars program. The Finance Department was awarded the star for achieving specific transparency goals in the area of debt obligations during a July 12 city council meeting.

SHENANDOAH, TEXAS. (July 14, 2017)-The City of Shenandoah received their second star in the Texas Comptroller’s Transparency Stars program. The Finance Department was awarded the star for achieving specific transparency goals in the area of debt obligations during a July 12 city council meeting.

Comptroller Glenn Hegar’s transparency program recognizes cities, counties and school districts that have made great strides in governmental transparency. Local governments may earn stars in the area of traditional finance, contracts and procurement, economic development, public pensions and debt obligation. Each entity must earn the star in traditional finances before applying for additional stars which can then be awarded in any order. Last February, Shenandoah was awarded their star for traditional finances.

“We are the only city in Montgomery County to have this award and one of only 45 recipients in the whole state,” said City Administrator Greg Smith. “I want to commend Jennifer Calvert and Lisa Wasner for their dedication and hard work which enabled us to earn this award and provide our general public with financial transparency.”
