Featured Events 

Tuesday, October 3rd at 5:00pm – Teen Makers - Coding

Teens Ages 13-17. Practice basic coding with Hour of Code™; use tutorials to learn coding concepts and create animations with game-based activities. This program will be in the computer lab and requires registration. Space is limited so register now.
The 'Hour of Code' is a nationwide initiative by Computer Science Education Week and Code.org to introduce millions of students to one hour of computer science and computer programming.

Wednesday, October 4th at 10:30 am – Fire Safety Storytime

“Stop, Drop, and Roll” on over for a fun and educational storytime and craft, featuring a special visit from the Fire Department! For all ages.

Monday, October 9th at 5:30 pm – Teen Movie Night “Harry Potter” Series

For ages 13-17.  Teens, we are celebrating 20 years of Harry Potter!  Join us for the first film in the series, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, rated PG.  Runtime: 2hours and 39 minutes. Free popcorn and drinks provided. No registration required.

Tuesday, October 10th at 2:00 pm – Movie Matinee

Join us for a midday movie matinee of "The Searchers", based on the 1954 novel by Alan Le May. In it, John Wayne plays the part of a middle-aged Civil War veteran, Ethan Edwards, who returns to Texas and seeks to rescue his niece who was abducted by Indians.*This film is NR (not rated). No registration required. This event is in support of the 2017 Gulf Coast Reads book selection News of the World by Paulette Jiles.

Thursday, October 12th at 10:00 am – Late 19th Century Montgomery County History

Brush up on your local history with the Heritage Museum of Montgomery County. This program concentrates on the latter part of the 19th century. Please register in order to join us for this event. This event is in support of the 2017 Gulf Coast Reads book selection News of the World by Paulette Jiles.

Thursday, October 12th at 6:00 pm – Fall Festival/Festival de Otoño and Family Coloring Night/ Velada en Familia

Join us for an adventure in color. Music, light refreshments and supplies are provided. Bring your laughter and imagination.

Monday, October 23rd at 10:30 am – Mobile Cooking School

Theme: German and/or German-inspired dishes

Join us as a representative from Texas A&M Agrilife teaches about cooking techniques and preparing healthy, well-balanced meals. At the conclusion, you will be able to eat the results of your own cooking! It's a great program for all ages. Children are welcome with adult supervision. Registration is required. For ages 13-17.  Teens, we are celebrating 20 years of Harry Potter!  Join us for the fourth film in the series, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, rated PG-13.  Runtime: 2hours and 37 minutes. Free popcorn and drinks provided. No registration required.

Monthly or Bi-Monthly Events at the Library

First Thursday, October 5th at 3:45 pm – Pre-Teen Book Club

All kids ages 9-12 years old are invited to join us for our preteen book club in our Children's Activity Room.  We meet once every month to discuss our favorite books.  A light snack and fun activity included!  (Parents or other adult caregivers are asked to remain in the Children's Department while your preteen is participating in the book club.) 

Second and Fourth Tuesday, October 10th and 24th at 5:00 pm – Needlecraft: A Good Yarn!

Crocheters, knitters, spinners, and other textile artists are welcome for fellowship and conversation! Bring your own work-in-progress and supplies and join us in the first floor small meeting room at the Central Library. If you would like to learn knitting or crochet, please come by.

Second Thursday, October 12th at 3:45 pm - LEGO® and DUPLO® Fun

Kids of all ages are invited to come to build their own creation using Legos® and Duplos® during the hour of 3:45 - 4:45pm in our Children's Activity Room!  Parents are asked to remain in the room with their children under age 13. 

Thursday, October 12th at 6:00 pm – Adult Historical Fiction Book Club

Join us for tea, snacks, and discussion! We will be reading a different work of Historical Fiction each month and discussing at the meetings. Meetings take place on one Thursday a month in the evening from 6 - 8PM.

Third Tuesday, October 17th at 3:45 pm – R.E.A.D.® to the Dogs

All kids ages 4-12 years old are invited to come and practice their reading skills with the Montgomery Pet Partners therapy dog teams in our Children's Activity Room.  Each child can select a favorite book to read to one of the trained therapy dogs assisted by their owner/trainer. (Parents or other adult caregivers are asked to remain in the Children's Department while your child is participating.)

Tuesday, October 24th at 2:00 pm – Toddler Playdate

Ages 0-3 enjoy a come-and-go program that encourages independent toddler play and socialization with educational toys and board books. Miss Brandy looks forward to seeing everyone for a wonderful playdate! This is a new, monthly program.

Thursday, October 26th at 5:00 pm – Family Storytime

Families with children of all ages are invited to learn about new books, play board games and other family activities, and make an easy craft. This is a new, monthly program.

Last Thursday, October 26th at 6:30 pm – Spanish Conversation Club

Do you speak Spanish and want to practice it in a relaxed setting?   Join us!  No sign up needed. Basic conversational skill in Spanish is required for participation. A native Spanish speaker will facilitate this program. For more information call the Reference Desk at 936-442-7712, ext. 6246
