Memorial Hermann The Woodlands Announces Additional Location, Convenient Hours & Discounted Prices for Back-To-School Physicals

THE WOODLANDS, Texas (Aug. 11, 2017) – Memorial Hermann The Woodlands Hospital is preparing for back-to-school physicals by offering an additional location for screening, convenient hours and discounted prices.

To better accommodate parents, Memorial Hermann Urgent Care in Spring, Texas, is offering back-to-school physicals seven days a week, from 9 a.m.-9 p.m. Memorial Hermann The Woodlands is offering Student Cardiac Screening from Aug. 7-18, from 2:30-6 p.m.

As parents are preparing their children to go back to school, there are numerous items to check off the list – and if your child is an athlete – obtaining an annual physical is mandatory. Most school districts require the exams for student athletes, as well as the use of a specific pre-participation medical history form in order to identify family history that might suggest a risk for sudden cardiac death.

Physicians will perform a head-to-toe physical of your child. Parents can expect the physician to listen to the heart, check the lungs, monitor blood pressure, test cholesterol, check for anemia, screen vision and update vaccines, among other things. Parents can also use this annual visit to discuss nutrition and exercise options, and to address any general wellness questions they might have.

Some student athletes may receive a referral for additional screening, or due to family history, some might need a cardiac screening. If necessary, these screenings are available at Memorial Hermann The Woodlands and are performed through its cardiopulmonary services.

“Parents will need to fill out a medical history form in order to obtain an EKG screening. We need to have an understanding of family history,” said Dr. Faustino Ramos, pediatric cardiologist affiliated with Memorial Hermann The Woodlands Hospital and the McGovern Medical School at UTHealth. “An EKG screening can help identify young athletes who are at risk of sudden cardiac death.”
