Magnolia, Texas (October 3, 2017) – The Magnolia Education Foundation (MEF) hosted an evening with the Charlie Riley Band on Friday, September 15 at Tomball’s Main Street Crossing.  The evening raised funds to support Magnolia ISD teacher grants for the 2017-18 school year.

The event was originally scheduled for Saturday, August 28 but was postponed due to Hurricane Harvey. Despite the new date falling on a Friday night during high school football, the Foundation had a sold-out crowd and raised over $5,000 with a $1,000 going to the Magnolia ISD Harvey Employee campaign.

Foundation President Dacia Owens explained, “I want to thank everyone for supporting this event which ultimately funds innovative grants for our teachers in Magnolia ISD. When the board learned that several of our Magnolia ISD teachers and staff were impacted by the storm, we wanted to help the teachers who make a difference in the lives of our children every day.”

Commissioner Charlie Riley, the lead singer of the band, was one of the founding members of the Magnolia Education Foundation and also served on the MISD school board. This event was dear to his heart as an original founder and supporting the MISD employee Harvey relief efforts.

All the ticket proceeds provide scholarships and teacher grants in Magnolia ISD through the Foundation.  This year, the Foundation has a goal to raise $75,000 for Magnolia ISD schools. The foundation will open the grant applications mid-October and award the grants in early 2018.

Formed in 2001, MEF was founded to provide tools for learning and funds programs outside of the District budget to support excellence in education. MEF’s mission is to achieve academic excellence by developing financial resources through community involvement.
