Crashing into Reality: Milstead Automotive to show local high school students the aftermath of fatal driving accidents

Students at Oak Ridge High School are about to get a hard-driving lesson on the effects of fatal auto accidents.

THE WOODLANDS, TX (March 29, 2016) – Students at Oak Ridge High School are about to get a hard-driving lesson on the effects of fatal auto accidents. Milstead Automotive has partnered up with nonprofit organization Shattered Lives to present an event unlike any other. For two solid days on April 7-8, the school will undergo a spine-tingling reenactment of fatal auto accidents caused by texting or drinking and driving. Students will be chosen to be victims of these accidents and will spend the rest of the exercise “dead,” where they cannot interact or be interacted with. Their parents will be informed of their “demises,” and eulogies will be given by classmates. Concurrently, information and literature will be given that promotes safe driving habits.

Shattered Lives is an anti-drinking and driving program that was created by Mike Valdez, a former Assistant District Attorney of Montgomery County, and Holly Pichette, a paramedic for the Montgomery County Hospital District. The purpose of the program is to drive home the life-altering – and life-long – consequences of careless driving. The program has been in operation for more than 15 years and travels constantly throughout the school year to hit as many educational institutions as possible. Practically every school that has undergone the program has noted a positive response both from students and a downturn in avoidable accidents.

Milstead Automotive is completely funding the two-day event at Oak Ridge High School as part of its ongoing commitment to community and determination to end driving-related fatalities. Milstead also wants the public to know that Shattered Lives is seeking donations so that it can continue its programs at other area schools.
