Conroe Symphony Orchestra Announces 2017–2018 Season Line-Up

CONROE, TX – The Conroe Symphony Orchestra is getting ready for its 21st Season and has announced the programming for the upcoming 2017-2018 Season, opening Monday, October 30, 2017 and continuing through June 30, 2018.

The Conroe Symphony Orchestra is a non-profit 501(c) 3 organization made up of a mix of talented professional and amateur musicians with a wide age range.  The committed musicians that make up the Conroe Symphony enjoy the challenge of the music while showcasing their talent to the community.

Music Director and Conductor Dr. Don Hutson will conduct the season’s five concert series.  The season encompasses works from all musical eras and all concerts feature guest artists or soloists that complement the Symphony:

Monday, October 30, 2017, 7:30 p.m.

“Opening Night Celebration”

James Dick, Guest Artist

Where: Conroe High School

Make plans to attend the Conroe Symphony Orchestra for a memorable night! Joining the Orchestra for Opening Night is renowned pianist, James Dick, founder of Festival Hill at Round Top. Today James Dick is well-known to music lovers as a man of great talent, vision and class.

The audience will be wonderfully entertained by James Dick playing Emperor Concerto by Beethoven. The Orchestra will delight everyone with selections of Night on Bald Mountain, Danse Macabre and round out the perfect evening with In the Hall of the Mountain King and Sibelius Symphony #2.

“Holiday Glitter”

Get ready for Christmas Spirit with the Conroe Symphony Orchestra as they present new arrangements of traditional favorites. The CSO is pleased to welcome back our New York friend, Sal Viviano performing a truly wonderful Christmas concert! The Orchestra holiday music will include Caribbean Sleigh Ride, Little Bolero Drummer Boy and will end a wonderful evening with Brazilian Sleigh Bells along with Bassoon it will be Christmas.

“Love is in the Air”

February is always the time of year when we take a moment to celebrate those very special in our lives. With that in mind, the CSO will do their part to make it a very memorable evening.

This concert will feature Douglas Kwon, the 2017 YTA Grand Prize Winner and the audience will be beautifully entertained by a very talented violinist. The Symphony will feature some beautiful pieces with Theme from Indecent Proposal, Give Me a Smile, Moring from Peter Gynt Suite and Simple Gifts.

“Music from the Screen”

 Jacob Nance, Saxophone Soloist

Where: Conroe High School

The CSO spring concert will feature some of the classics from the Big Movie Screen, sure to delight you.  During the spring concerts, the Conroe Symphony has had the opportunity to showcase very talented young artists and this year is no exception. This concert will feature Saxophone Soloist, Jacob Nance, the 2017 Juanita Miller Concerto Competition Winner in the Wind Division. In addition, the Orchestra will perform Screen Classics including Peter and the Wolf, the Miller’s Dance, Music from the Movie Mozart and finishing with Superman and Pirates of the Caribbean.

“A CSO Patriotic Celebration”

Wear the red, white and blue and join the Conroe Symphony to celebrate the USA! If you have attended any of the CSO’s Patriotic concerts, you know they like to have a lot of fun. This year is no exception!

The music will feature a rousing rendition of Battle Hymn of the Republic along with America and America the Beautiful. The CSO always remembers those in the Armed Forces sacrificing to keep us free. The annual Armed Forces Salute will pay tribute to each branch.

TICKET AND VENUE INFORMATION

This season, the Conroe Symphony Orchestra will perform the concerts at Conroe High School, located at 3200 W Davis Street (SH 105) in Conroe. Tickets for individual concerts are $15 for adults and $5 for children ages 12 and under, with special rates available for groups of 10 or more made prior to the concert. Season tickets are available for $60, which include admission to all five concerts and two complimentary tickets to any one concert of your choice.   

Tickets may be ordered by calling the Symphony Centre at 936-760-2144 or purchased in person at the Conroe Symphony Centre, located at 1500 N Frazier #3, in Conroe (please call for office hours).
