Bad Progress Report: What to do next?

Progress Reports were sent out last week marking the halfway point in the fall semester for most students. For struggling students, few things can be as disheartening as progress reports coming home. Regardless of how your children performed on their first grading period, the conversations you have with them surrounding their progress reports should be constructive. A few examples of what to do next:

The ABC’s of Home Schooling

In Harris and Montgomery Counties, we are seeing an increase in the number of parents opting out of the public education system. Some of these parents are choosing to provide a more customized form of learning through home schooling. Many of the reasons center around public education quality concerns, to religious beliefs, to standardized testing concerns.

In Texas , there are a few laws which I would like to cover regarding home schooling:

Two Easy Steps

About the 3rd or 4th week of each new school year, my phone starts ringing with parents on the other end asking how GradePower Learning can help with their childs’ homework and time management. My first reaction is to simply listen to the particulars of their situation. Inevitably, there are a few core reasons why homework “blows up” for many students as they ease into the school year.

Back to School Learning Tips

Part 2

We are almost done with the first week back to school. For most students, the first week represents a chance to ease back into academics and get a general feel for where they stand. My intent today is to assist every student on how to get a head start on the fall semester and set themselves up for success throughout the year.

I recommend some basic principles when it comes to a successful academic strategy for any (elementary through high school) student.

Learning Doesn’t Stop

Just Because School is Out

When the final bell rang a few weeks back, students of all ages and grades will headed home to hang up their book bags for the last time. They (most likely) have not or will not give the books inside another thought until it’s time to head back to school.

How Well Will Your Kid’s Brain Be Working By The End Of Summer?

For students of all ages, summer can’t get here fast enough! While kids may be ready for a vacation—a change of pace—the opposite is true for their brain. The brain never gets tired of doing the one thing that it was designed to do: learn.
