Top Tips to Keep Academic Momentum

Over the Holiday Break

The upcoming school break for our students can stop the momentum they have been building on over the recent weeks. We have some tips on how to keep your child's mind humming and still have fun over Christmas break.

1. Read, Read, and Read a little more. There are countless, classic stories about the upcoming holiday season. Many can be downloaded and read in an hour or less. “A letter from Santa Claus” by Mark Twain, “The Nutcracker and the Mouse King” by E.T.A. Hoffman are two that immediately come to mind.

2. Write a family member or friend a personal message. Make it personal and fun, the art of writing is not lost and this is the season to make connections. Grandparents, Aunts & Uncles the world over would love to receive a personal note from the youngest family members this year.

3. If you’re traveling, have your child keep a travelogue. We have seen some great ones this year; add pictures and some brief notes about the trips’ highlights. If you’re staying home, no worries, what are some destinations he or she would like to visit next year or beyond? Have them make a list of countries and places to visit.

4. Trace the family tree! What a great time of year to do a little research on the family history. The conversation alone can make for some great holiday memories for your children.

That is our short list of activities and ideas to keep the momentum going for your child. If you have any questions or comments, GradePower Learning, The Woodlands is here to help.
